Painless Childbirth - Fact Or Fiction?

,
3D ANIMATION :

You've heard the claims - women can have wonderful, painless birth experiences. But is there anything to them?

In short, the answer is yes.

The female body is specifically designed to conceive and carry a child, to birth the child, and to nourish the child in the months following birth. Women throughout history were able to have babies easily and with little discomfort.

So how can you have a painless childbirth?

First, it's important to understand that your physical condition plays a part in things. Good prenatal care is essential. I don't mean attending your doctor's appointments every few weeks. You need to take good care of yourself. Don't depend on your doctor. Eat a good pregnancy diet. Get moderate exercise (walking is good) and spend time outside in the fresh air frequently.

Next, realize that you've been conditioned to think of birth in a certain way. All through your growing-up years you heard stories of birth, you saw birth on television and in the movies, you may have even read about birth.

Think back on what you learned. You probably remember scenes with panicked women screaming on the way to the hospital. You probably heard your female relatives tell horror stories of their births.

Now here's another interesting thing to look at - think about animal births. You probably picture a cat or dog quietly giving birth to their kittens or puppies. A horse or cow in a dark barn, and in the morning there's a little calf or foal.

You probably hold the belief that animals give birth easily, and that people do not.

Understanding this belief is key. You see, if you believe your labor and birth will be painful, they will be! You'll do all kinds of unconscious things - like tensing up your body during labor, complaining about all the pain - that cause your labor to hurt.

So how do you begin to change these beliefs and have a painless birth, or at least a birth that involves only pressure sensations?

The most effective techniques

First, make sure you learn about effective birthing. There are techniques you can and should learn. These are not necessarily to remove pain. They're to help you be effective at birthing your baby. Learn the huge difference positions can make to how easily you give birth, and how you can actually increase the size of your pelvis for an easy birthing.

Next, change your beliefs about birthing. You can do this starting right here, right now. Take a look at your beliefs - no matter how they were formed. You're going to erase those images.

Start by reading stories from women who had great births. You can even watch clips of women giving birth with strength and lack of fear. Determine that you're going to give birth to your baby in the same way.

Write down several positive things. "I am having an easy birth." "I am strong and will birth my baby with ease." "I embrace the pressure I feel as my birthing time begins." These are some examples.

Repeat these to yourself. Spend time visualizing your perfect birth. Picture it over and over, in great detail. Picture it from a first-person perspective.

Did you know your mind can't tell the difference between that vivid image and reality? It's true - science has shown it can't. So each time you visualize that perfect birth, you're conditioning yourself for it!

If you have any real fears, don't let them overtake you. Confront them and research them. Get completely logical and factual and decide what you'd do if the problem arose. Then move on. You've already decided how you'll handle it, so don't dwell on it. Say your positive statements. Visualize your perfect birth.

As you take action to have a healthy pregnancy and good birth, and as you reprogram your old, false beliefs about what childbirth is, you'll be well on your way to painless birth.
